On Wednesday afternoon, the Kanpur Nagar Anti-Corruption Team caught a head constable posted at the district excise office red-handed accepting a bribe of 12,000 rupees. This action, taken in response to a complaint from Uday Pratap Singh, licensee of the composite liquor shop Dhanua, about demanding a bribe for work, caused a stir among department officials and employees. The accused, Head Constable Tehsildar Singh, a resident of Kanpur, was arrested by a team led by Inspector Shrikrishna Mohan Rai, in-charge of the Anti-Corruption Team, while accepting money from the licensee of the victim’s liquor shop, which had been given to him in 500-rupee notes coated with color. The team later took the accused Head Constable Tehsildar from his office to the Civil Lines police station, where a case was registered against him under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and he was taken to Kanpur.
